* Start your own “Family Film Production Company”.
Luz, a student in Mrs. Karat’s class, knew nothing about computers six months ago. Everyday she attends class, she discovers or learns something special about her new computer and other digital equipment. Relying on her acquired film making skills, she has set up her own film production business concentrating on more private events such as wedding, baptismal and birthday celebrations in her neighborhood. She is very happy to be able to supplement her family’s income with her NEW BUSINESS!
For more information on her services, call her at (305) …

Preserve your heritage.
Maria da Rocha is creating a genealogical Family Tree encompassing four different countries. She has been able to document her family living in Portugal, Venezuela, Canada and the USA with family photos and original music from all four countries. In this way she can bring the whole family together on the Internet, in digital forms and hopefully in the physical form too !!
She is certain that they are all in each others’ heart .

Creating e a new state of the art DVD about your professional skills and submitting it to potential employers.
In early April 2007, Jesus Bravo, a Professional Hair & Make-up Artis, came to Mrs. Karat’s computer class out of curiosity. Today, he is editing a “State of the Art” portfolio presentation in DVD format which he will soon submit to several potential employers. It will they will actually see him making everyday people look FABULOUS! He is especially gifted in working with people with disabilities for photo shoots. Hydee with commercial on her computer monitor
Hydee, instead, is busy creating a commercial for her “horse” business . By demonstrating the various types of horses she has, as well as, other services she provides in her new DVD, she hopes to increase her clientele base and thus increase her income potential. At this time she is very busy filming all aspects of her horse business in Homestead including boarding, care, breeding, supplies, sale and trade of these wonderful and majestic animals. * Make a movie and increase your children’s self esteem and confidence.

Gabby, on the other hand, is the expert in Mrs. Karat’s computer class. She just finished making movie entitled “The Text Message.” The movie, starring her two granddaughters and their mother, is a suspense thriller and has great sound effects. “An unexpected outcome of the project was that it brought the whole family together as never before,” stated Gabby. Perhaps, it would be an excellent way to help children build their self esteem, confidence, thus, increasing their chances for success. The movie, shown in class, became and instant “HIT.” We all encourage her to submit it for competition. Gabby is now busy planning her next “award winning movie” and just maybe launching her new profession as a MOVIE DIRECTOR!

* Make an interactive movie using your family recipes.
Amanda is an 85 year old senior who also attends Mrs. Karat’s computer class. She had something to share with her daughters living on the west coast. In her case, it was her Ecuadorian family recipes. Taking the computer class allowed her to document how to make some of her children’s favorite foods. “Arroz Tapado,” “Llapingachos” and “Buñuelos” are a few of her documented recipes on her new DVD. After refining and editing it, it will soon be ready for a California delivery! “Maybe I can turn this into a business,” she said with a big smile.

* Make a film featuring a family member.
Daisy learned about Mrs. Karat’s Computer Class from a friend. She came to class it with great trepidation; but after a few sessions, she already has a project in mind. Her husband will soon have a birthday. She is planning a surprise party for him where all his family and friends will be present. Her class project involves the making of a movie featuring a “This is Your Life” theme to present to him as a surprise. Right now she is busy filming her husband in secret at every opportunity and downloading the sections into the computer in class. Soon, she will edit, add music and a narrative to complete her project. If you know her husband, don’t let the cat out of the bag!

* Make a documentary about a special event
A while back, Maria cooked a special meal for her Cuban family. Several friends were invited including Alan. Before the evening was out, Alan proposed to her and she accepted. The wedding will take place in December 2007; but, for now, she is busy using her new computer and camera skills to make a documentary movie about her upcoming wedding. Meticulously, she is filming every aspect of the planning; her gown, her wedding rings, the maids of honor dresses, the flower arrangements, the meal, favors which will be used, the ceremony and much more. She states that she has a way to go, but hopes to be finished before the semester ends. We wish her a HAPPY CEREMONY!
* Preserve your precious family pictures forever and share them with family members far away.

Soledad, (Maria Briganti - writer/editor) on the other hand, signed up for a Mrs. Karat’s Computer Class for seniors after speaking to her and sharing her concerns. It turns out that she is the “keeper” of many beautiful, but, old family pictures. Today, just a month after she started the course, Maria has scanned, classified, modified and edited more than 500 family pictures into digital form on her new DVD. She is now confident that no harm will come to them; not rain, or light or even humidity. Most important, she is now able to share this DVD with countless family members scattered all over the word. Maria is now planning a new project: A documentary movie about her family!

Sarah, 72 year old senior, is in Mrs. Karat’s computer class out of curiosity. She is having a great deal of “fun” as she explores different possibilities. In fact, the skills she has learned in class have helped her use her home computer, in spite of the fact, that the two are totally different. At times, her eyes sparkle as she shares with her peers a special design, a new card or a new idea she has discovered. In addition, she has learned to respond to her e-mails by sending text, documents and pictures to her family back in Argentina. Go girl!

Silvia thinks that computers are an essential tool for just about everything, from communicating with family far away to conducting a business. Her objective is to keep with the “times” and she is convinced she has made a wise decision about signing up for Mrs. Karat’s computer class for seniors. She has been in class only a few times, but she is already surprised at the possibilities. Currently, she is busy scanning some pictures of her Miami Beach apartment into her new DVD.

Ana Alvarez – is a ‘Jacklyn of all trades’ In fact she is planning on managing any area of a Media Project. At the moment she is working as an intern to Ms. Karat to improve all areas of communication from Camera work & editing to creating professional presentations.
